August 4, 2003, Midlothian. Virginia Systems announces the immediate availability of its upgraded family of QuarkXPress add-on products for both Macintosh and Windows. The upgrade allows the products to work with the new QuarkXPress 6. The upgraded products include: Sonar Bookends and Sonar Bookends Professional (automatic indexing), Sonar TOC (table of contents and more), Sonar Bookends Fnote (footnote/endnote management), and Sonar Bookends Xref (cross-reference generator).

Besides being made QuarkXPress 6 compatible, Sonar TOC has a new feature: Support for character style sheets. Paragraph style sheets and character Style sheets can now mark both table of contents entries and lists of items to be indexed. Items being indexed can now be limited to being indexed only where those items are marked with either a character style sheet or a paragraph style sheet.

Pricing is as follows: Sonar Bookends 4.8a is $195, Sonar Bookends Professional 2002.3a is $395, Sonar TOC 6.0 is $195, Sonar Bookends Fnote 3.0 is $195, and Sonar Bookends Xref 3.0 is $95. Anyone who purchased a copy of one of these products after July 1, 2003 can get an update for free. Otherwise the update cost is $100 for Sonar Bookends, Sonar Bookends Fnote, and Sonar Bookends Xref. Sonar Bookends Professional is $200 to update and Sonar TOC is $50.
